Match notes |
The round five top of the table clash was an all Raiders affair as the Corrupted Raiders came up against the heavy underdog Deadhand Raiders. 22,000 fans braved the poring rain to watch the match that would potentially shape the remainder of the season.
The Corrupted Raiders won the toss and risked the conditions to recieve the first kick off. As the defence set up the fans were delighted to see Bryce 'the Slice' Canbuel and Hack Enslash, the two Star Players with their trusty chainsaws, were playing for the Deadhand Raiders for the match.
As the ball was kicked the rain ceased and the chaos offence was able to commence proceedings in perfect conditions. They gathered the ball and ran it up the right flank to mid field. Holding the line the Deadhand defence was able to put pressure on the ball forcing the Corrupted drive to run a switch play. But the lateral pass was dropped allowing the Deadhand defence to recover. The teams then took turns sacking the ball carrier as they fought for clear possession. In a superb play, the Corrupted offence recovered the ball, dodged clear of the conjestion and threw another pass, this time completing it downfield to beastman - Ghorthos Brokenhorn who ran clear of the defence and scored just before half time.
1-0 to the Chaos at the main break with 11 on 11 to start the second half despite Bryce 'the Slice' playing the whole first half. the chainsaw star sent off with no impact to speak of.
As the ball was kicked to recommence the match for the second half, Hack Enslash had come onto the field taking a place on the offensive line. But the Corrupted defence were wise to the star and executed a perfect defence, leaving him out of position. The Deadhand front line did nothing but push around their opponents as Ghoul - Dywell Willrams fumbled the ball in the back field. The Corrupted defence was able to push up and place immense pressure on the drive. However, Hack Enslash kicked his chainsaw into gear and 'cut' a hole for the offence to run through. In a well executed running play Willrams carried the ball the length of the field running side to side well supported by his team mates blocks.
Willrams ran in the equaliser just before the final siren leaving the Corrupted Raiders no chance to score. When the ref called time, both teams head back to the locker room with their third draw for the season. |
