Match notes
The finale of the Silver division played out across two games, the Barrowvia Brawlers welcomed the Cockerells, and they both needed a win to claim the trophy, while they also needed Tor’s Chosen to at least draw with Sierra Angels. Tor’s Chosen over-delivered in a simultaneous match play (practically World Cup conditions) with a 2-1 win, so either team needed a a win to claim the trophy, a draw leaving the Chosen top of the pack.

The Cockerells chose to kick to the Vampires, and this proved fortunate as the snow was bucketing down in a blozzard, making movement harder - in theory. The Cockerellls began what can only be described as a vampire hunting plan as the Brawler star went down in the second turn, only to be rescued by the apothecary. Tied up on the flanks, the vampire star runner defied the blizzard and rushed in an early touchdown.

As the humans received the ball, the skies parted and one could almost hear the echoes of forgotten souls seeking revenge on their vampire tormentors. The Cockerells were only to happy to oblige. Every move saw a removal, even as the humans had to rush forward to grab a short kick, throw it back and retreat, they bashed their way forward. The vampires were disciplined, showing no sign of bloodlust and simply remarkable dodging abilities. The only option was violence. By the end of the first half, three vampires were in the KO box and two thralls had been taken out for good as the Cockerells walked in the TD to even the score.

Starting the second half the vampires recovered and three of them returned to the field, with a full complement of blood bags - errr thralls. It didn’t last. The ball went long and the Cockerells audaciously blocked the LOS and then dropped the big Vargheist only to group foul him. Only a stun, but now the fouling was well underway.

A vampire runner was caught and fouled out, with another dropping and seeing a boot descending on their face. By the middle of the half only the aspiring vampire thrower was left of his kind. The Cockerells on a 10-6 player advantage isolated the ball and suddenly the thralls were trying to save the day. They nearly did, but a throw past a marking thrall and then moves away cleared some air, only for the catcher to be levelled by a remaining thrall. Late in the half, the Ogre tried blocking the thrall away only to go down (on triple skulls and failing the loner roll).

A hero play was needed. Vicario (thrower) rushed the ball, picked it off the floor and threw a long pass (10 squares) which was caught with a reroll by the human star of the game, #11 Richarlison, who - after some help blitzing away the last vampire - walked in his second touchdown (having done four fouls) to win the game in the last minute.

The crowd went wild, a silver coin was handed over, and the coach was seen carrying a bag of bribes home with him, having brought it for the fouling play, and never needing to use it.
