A blizzard was in full swing as the Cockerells welcomed the Angels to the Ostermark for an all human affair. An enthusiastic home player brought a sharp blade to the field in the first half under cover of the snow and promptly stabbed a noble.
The Cockerells received and proceeded to pull the ball back while blocking the Noble approach. A first-move chain push signalled the Angel’s intent. When the two ogre’s went head to head - and both duly went down - the Cockerell ogre was KO’d out for the remainder of the match. The teams fought removal for removal, and deep into the first half the Cockerells made their play, moving forward, handing over and dodge-rushing over the touchdown line, despite a wall of Angels.
The skies cleared as and the Angels looked like a team with a mission from above as they started their offensive drive. The ball went short and was spilled but despite bombs going off and bodies flying, the Cockerells couldn’t clear the space. The Angels blocked across the line and opened up a hole which the noble blitzers rushed through to score early in the half. Restarting midway through the second half, the Cockerells pulled the ball back and moved players forward. The Angels had had enough at this point and began a blocking campaign that saw many a white helmet in the mud. Then pandemonium!
Late in the half, the Cockerells eyed an audacious long throw, which opened up the game and placed their top scorer in range. The Angels blocked him in, and as if blessed he was not knocked over (after six block dice) and the Catcher proceeded to run the ball all the way back to Cockerell territory only for his handover to be dropped. The angels rushed in to claim the ball, blitzing defenders away but failed the pickup. Then at the last minute they tried an audacious pick-up-and-pass out of tackle zones into the TD area - only to fail the throw. The Cockerells then played it back, setting up for a dodging long throw, but the ground was slippery with mud, snow and ice, and as the thrower went down the ref blew his whistle for 1-1. An excellent match which the fans and coaches thoroughly enjoyed. Could have gone either way at the end, with scoring opportunities and a lot of movement. |
