It was a bloody affair in the pouring rain as 11 injuries hit home when the Ostermark Cockerells returned to Sylvania to face the Vanilla Vampires after their 2-2 draw in MBBL 26. Choosing to kick, the Vampires landed the ball on the line of scrimmage to crowd in and create a scrum. The Cockerells brought two mercenaries, and Cindy was slinging pies at the Vargheist but the bombs were intercepted by some overly eager thralls.
A scrum ensued, eventually leading Viktor the star vampire thrower to escape with the ball and plunge toward the end zone. Both the vargheist and Serafina the runner were fouled, and injuries began to take effect as the vampires went up 1-0 and fielded nine players for the second drive. The now 11 (down from 14) Cockerells poured through the lines and made a passing-run-play to even the score before half time.
In the second half the humans lined up and also kicked to the line of scrimmage. Pandemonium ensued at the end of which no thralls were left in the pitch, but somehow Viktor scooped the ball and ran for all he was worth. Without any delicious thralls on the pitch, he kept his mind, dodged and blitzed another touchdown.
With only five players left, and all vampires, the Vanilla home team lined up in some trepidation. The kick went all the way back, beyond the TD zone and the humans chose to try for a one touch down eyeing a 3-2 win - if they could only score twice. That turned out to be too far a reach and when Werner saw his change he ran away from the Vatgheist all the way to the backline leaving a lone blitzer with a touchdown chance. It wasn’t to be, the vampires blitzed, bit and blocked - with not a bloodlust case in sight - and closed out the game an enjoyable 2-1. |
