Match notes |
The overwhelming crowd support for the Siwan Shufflers clearly had an effect on the Gastly Ones. After the over-zealous crowd rioted, the Skaven players showed clear signs of nervousness and as a consequence they found themselves under pressure from the onset. An initial flurry of knock-outs saw them outnumbered and struggling to stay in the match. The Shufflers secured the ball and then set about trying to clear the pitch of any rodent-like life-forms. By the end of the drive the khemri managed a crowd-pleasing six knockouts, two casualties and one seemingly inevitable touchdown.
After the break, the Gastly Ones managed to field only 9 players and set about trying to use speed and nimbleness to compensate. Although a pair of Gutter Runners did sprint through the Shufflers defense into scoring positions, nerves again showed as the skaven failed to equalise. The culprit this time was Nuprator, the skaven thrower who had a very poor game. A fumbled pass, another inaccurate pass, and finally as he attempted to pick up the ball he fumbled it over the sideline. The crowd, clearly displaying its bias, returned the ball to a position clearly favouring the Khemri, and from then on it became a question of whether the Shufflers remove each and every Skaven player from the pitch before the match ended.
Through a combination of strong tackling and blatant fouling, the Shufflers managed to remove all traces of rodent from the pitch and, with time still left on the clock, Ako the skeleton scored his first career touchdown.
With only seconds left on the clock, a team of only five skaven returned for the restart. This time however, Hash'ak'gik the Rat Ogre was among them. After being knocked unconscious in the first block of the game, Hash'ak'gik had missed the entire game since, and thus was well rested. He proceeded to thump Djadao the Tomb Guard so hard, it appeared the decaying creature would "live" no longer. But, just as the Shufflers sidelines began displaying signs of elation, the Tomb Guard slowly shambled to his feet.
The match ended - a solid 2-0 victory to the Shufflers. In terms of body count, the Khemri inflicted five casualties and eleven knock-outs, while suffering two casualties (both regenerated) and a single player sent off in return. With 12 points from 5 games, the Shufflers look certain to be promoted to Division 1 next season. The Gastly Ones however, are unlikely to find much comfort in the season so far. |
