The Flamers got the fans, the ball and the opening kickoff result - a thrown rock - which badly hurt Droppa black orc blocker Kruda Harpoonz. Then, despite rolling the first of many double one's, the skaven danced with the ball down the pitch, and, after stalling for a couple of turns, took it into the endzone for a 1-0 lead.
Droppa had about 4 turns to score an equaliser before the half, and were driving mid-way into Flamer territory when a scrum developed on the left sideline. A number of orcs were pushed into the crowd and the ball was knocked out of thrower Smite Gunfingaz hands. The Flamers recovered and, on turn 7, had a chance to score. Pickup, handoff, and pass were all successful, however the Flamer stormvermin dropped the ball (and a 2-0 lead) in the endzone. He was then promptly surfed into the crowd, who beat the s#@t out of him and saw that he'd not only be out for this game, but would miss the next as well.
Halftime - Flamers 1, Droppa 0
The orcs received in the second and started playing how orcs should be played - lots of bashing coupled with a slow and steady grind up the field. The Droppa coach heeded advice given to him pre-match and starts using his mighty blow blitzers to knock some rats out of the game. It worked. With the numbers now in the Droppa's favour, and the dodging (and dice) of the Flamers just being flat out terrible, It looked like Droppa were on the verge of pulling pull out a gallant 1-1 draw.
Then, the rat ogre Monstake Scalpifig decided to assert his authority, killing the mighty blow blitzer Nu Gleer Boarhead with a savage strike to the head. The Droppa apothecary was making his way out to try and resurrect the lifeless orc when he saw that the Skaven apoth was already there. What sportsmanship! Attempting to save the life of an opposition player! Droppa allowed the rat apoth to work his magic and...DEAD. At least he tried.
Still, numbers were with the orcs, and they stalled successfully (a first for their coach!) and scored with their last possible chance in turn 15.
1-1 with one turn to go...
The Flamers had one shot - a one turn touchdown to win the game.
They set up and started blocking and moving the orc line to their advantage. Then tragedy struck - black orc Tonka Da Trug was decapitated by the irrepressible ogre Scalifig!
Momentum was clearly all with the Flamers, and the fans who left early (including the MBBL's #1 bookie) missed out on seeing a successful 1 turn td that won the game for the Flamers.
Nuffle then decided to deliver one final well-struck kick to the teeth of the Droppa coach, gifting the MVP to the headless black orc >:( |
