With 650k in inducements, and a distinct lack of love for wizards, I picked up an extra apothecary and a Bloodweiser babe to protect my boys, a bribe to help the booting and four 100k Good Karma cards.
Cards I drew were:
The Fan, free 6427 frenzy loner for the half.
Suitable Pitch, +1 or -1 to armour rolls for players knocked over for a drive (I chose the -1. Sure, I wouldn't be hurting orcs, but with all Numas' Mighty Blow I didn't feel like being goblins either.)
Scott's Scroll of Weather Magic, choose a weather effect (I took Pouring Rain hopefully would mess up Myki's ball handling ability.)
All Out Blitz, I got to blitz twice in one turn!
Orc fans outnumbered human, Numas getting +2 FAME.
The pouring rain didn't effect either of us, made pick up rolls easily. Myki chose to receive and bash the Eagles into pitch paste. He advanced the ball to mid field, but with a risky combination of a two die uphill block, and a blitz with the frenzy loner allowed me to get a second blitz onto the ball carrier, luckily not his blodging one. Popped the ball free then revovered it with blitzer David Fenchel who ran downfield. Sadly, at the cost of my ogre who was badly hurt by Beer Money Inc. I used my extra apothecary on to get him back on for the next drive.
Outstanding Prick Oskar Kruger managed a couple of fouls in on a black orc blocker but, sadly, only managed to stun him. :'(
I had planned to stall a bit, but good pressure by Myki meant I had to run it in for a quarter time defensive TD. Which, unfortunately, meant the referees had time to bring the pitch back to proper league standards.
All I had to do was hold off Myki for four turns and could go into the second half up by one so i grouped my guards to deny as many 2 die blocks took the hits and pressured the ball carrier as much as I could.
Highlight of last quarter of the half was The Fan crowd surfing an orc blitzer into the ravenous fans who beat the snot out of him, causing a BH, which caused coach Myki to burn his apoth. 1-0 Edmundsheim.
The rain had the unintended effect of bringing down the spirits of the Numas fans with the Eagles gaining rerolls from Cheering Fans results.
Second half saw the rain continue and I decided to set up for a quick score and hopefully reverse 2-1 grind Numas with the benefit of preserving my players.
After a short kick, the Eagles punched a hole on the left, Njall Lumzden running downfield, leaving the bloodied remains of Sproggy Stainer in his wake (who was sent to the Hotspores medical tent, Badly Hurt). Picked up the ball, covered the orc lanes and handed off to well-protected blitzer Lumzden.
Myki was able to open a small hole to my receiver but, unfortunately, failed the dodge needed to blitz down my ball carrier. I played it safe and ran it in, turn 2 for a 2-0 score.
Once again I was on defense and our friend Nuffle came out to play. Poor Myki couldn't crack armour, or only resulted in stuns when he did, Beer Money Inc. double skulled twice in the game and went stupid at the drop of a hat. To add insult to injury, Njall Lumzden intercepted the orc pass.
I was eventually able to get the ball to linesman Mikkel Wilson who ran it in for the Eagles' third TD which also earned him our MVP.
Last few turns saw petty fouling by Oskar Kruger (KOing a black orc), retailiatory fouling by Numas and a MVP gaining vanity pass by Rocky Bashly.
Really fun game, props to Myki to keeping up his good spirits despite Nuffle's intervention.
NOTE: Myki, originally we had 50,000 in winnings for you, but I remembered that you had +2 FAME not +1 and since you had rolled a 4, I entered 60,000 as your winnings. |
